These include services pertaining to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Health Care<\/li><li>Energy\/Utilities<\/li><li>Financial Services<\/li><li>Food<\/li><li>Critical Manufacturing<\/li><li>Critical Infrastructure<\/li><li>Religious Services (a controversial designation\nunique to Texas)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This means businesses and services one can expect to still\nsee functioning during the coronavirus quarantine period include grocery\nstores, banks, and childcare for essential service employees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What activities are considered essential and allowed during\nquarantine in Texas?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities deemed acceptable to leave the house for during\nthe stay-at-home period include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Trips to the grocery store or gas station<\/li><li>Providing or obtaining essentials<\/li><li>Hunting or fishing<\/li><li>Physical activity like jogging and bicycling<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that when doing the above, it\u2019s still highly important that one honor the health precautions outlined by the CDC, such as social distancing and frequent, thorough handwashing. Health experts are also beginning to encourage the use of medical face masks in public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>How does the Texas government decide which services are\nessential?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The designation of essential services is based on the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/publication\/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce\">guidelines on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What should one not do during the COVID-19 quarantine period\nin Texas?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Abbott recommends that Texans not eat or drink at bars, restaurants, or food courts. Dining in-person is banned, though takeout and delivery are encouraged. Individuals should also not visit gyms or massage parlors.
