At Third Coast Auto Group, we believe being prepared for the unexpected is the best way to stay safe on the busy Austin highways. While having your emergency kit packed is the first step, knowing how to react when a breakdown occurs is just as vital.
If you experience a mechanical failure or a flat tire, your first priority is to get your vehicle out of the flow of traffic. Aim for the right shoulder or a nearby parking lot if possible. Once stopped, turn your wheels away from the road and engage your emergency brake. To make yourself visible to other drivers, turn on your hazard lights immediately and place your reflective triangles approximately 50 to 100 feet behind your vehicle.
If you are on a high-speed road like I-35 or MoPac, it is often safest to stay inside the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened until professional help arrives. Use your extra phone charger to ensure you can stay in contact with roadside assistance or local authorities.
At Third Coast Auto Group, we take pride in providing reliable vehicles that get you where you need to go. If you are looking for a car you can count on, visit us at our Austin locations today.
