Mother’s Day at the Capitol
When? Sunday, May 12 at 7 pm
Where? Texas Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave, Austin
A gathering on the south steps of the Texas Capitol with live music? Count us in! Weather permitting, the Austin Symphonic Band will play a slew of festive tunes with a Cajun flair to the assembled crowd. This whole concert is, of course, in honor of mothers.
We encourage bringing a picnic blanket, or else get there early to snag one of the limited audience chairs. As an added bonus, parking around the Capitol and downtown will be free.

Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet
When? Sunday, May 12, from 11 am to 4 pm
Where? Russian House, 307 East 5th Street, Austin
Russian House will provide a warm family atmosphere on Sunday, where one can enjoy an array of delightful foods. These range from appetizers to salads to entrees to desserts- in short, the whole meal experience. There will also be refreshing drinks, including alcoholic varieties. For $5, those of acceptable age get unlimited mimosas.
The cost for this brunch buffet is $35 per adult, $15 for those under 12, and $0 for those under 7.

2019 Mother’s Day 5k and 10k
When? Anytime in May 2019
Where? Anywhere- you choose the route and time yourself
This is an interesting one. We’re including it on this list because it is in honor of Mother’s Day, and honestly, we haven’t heard of something like this before. The 2019 Mother’s Day 5k and 10k is a “virtual race”- that means it can be run or walked (or hopped, or skipped) from any location you choose. You time the “race” yourself, and can choose if you’d like to do a virtual 5k or 10k.
The cost to register for the virtual Mother’s Day 5k/10k is $20. This includes a custom medal and bib that will be shipped to your location. The quote on the medal says, “’ All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.’ – Abraham Lincoln.” There’s also a two-medal option, so you can get an extra one for mom.
In addition, at least $15 per registration will be donated to Vitamin Angels. Vitamin Angels provides vitamins and minerals to mothers and babies who need them. If you’re interested in this run of the future, you can sign up online.
