Is it paranoia, or are there actually colors more likely to get pulled over than others? Take a look below at what car color is most likely to get pulled over. The answer might surprise you!

Do car colors really matter?

The ‘red cars get pulled over more’ mentality is something that everyone seems to know. After all, they are flashier and therefore easier to spot. So, red vehicles must attract the attention of the police more often, right? Wrong. That is a common misconception. Despite what people think, it doesn’t really matter what color car you drive when it comes to getting pulled over. It’s about how you drive, and the behaviors you are displaying when you drive.

What gets a car pulled over?

Cars in car lotThere are certain things that grab an officer’s attention more than the color of a vehicle. They are easy things that most people are already aware of, but we’ll still go through them.

  • Poor road etiquette: we’re all guilty of this at one point. Whether we cut someone off, need to make a panicked lane change where we really aren’t supposed to, or drive a little too close to a slow car who just won’t move out of the fast lane. Poor manners and aggressive driving is a good way to get pulled over.
  • Speeding: it probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but speeding does tend to get people pulled over, especially if they are leading the charge in the fast lane.
  • Broken lights: not only if your head or taillights are out, but things like missing front or rear plates, or blinker lights that don’t work. These may seem like minor nuisances to fix, but it is far easier to fix them when they break than wait and get pulled over for them…and then fix them.

So even if you steer clear of the color red on your future vehicle, just in case, you’ll be in a far better position to avoid getting ticketed if you simply follow the rules of the road and practice safe driving habits.
